Dear Friends,

Please take a moment to carefully review the following information, as it will impact our operation during this semester.

Chabad will be open and continue to be a welcoming and warm home and family for every #ElonJew.

  

While we cannot guarantee you will not contract the virus, and there is an implicit acceptance of risk involved with participating at our events, now as always our highest priority remains the wellbeing of our community, both physical and spiritual, and we will do everything in our power to responsibly limit interactions and contact, without compromising our sense of purpose and community.

 

Chabad at Elon is looking forward to continuing to provide safe Jewish community life for the students and faculty at Elon University.

 

To that end, we are committed to following all safety recommendations and protocols provided by the CDC, the North Carolina Dept of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), and Elon University administration.

 

The staff at Chabad will monitor these recommendations periodically and adjust accordingly.

 

PROTOCOLS:

 

All communal gatherings will be held in a tent outdoors while maintaining strict physical distancing protocols and limiting the number of participants according to the recommended number at the time of the event.

 

At this time we do not anticipate any events or gatherings to take place indoors at Chabad, although this could change as the situation evolves.

 

All of Chabad’s events and activities will require prior reservation and will be capped at a maximum permitted by current regulations. The reservation system will be a crucial tool for post-fact contact-tracing in the event of exposure to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.

 

Students will be required to wear a face mask at all times, except while eating. 

 

While students are encouraged to bring their own -  face masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers will be available at every event.

 

The use of indoor restrooms will be limited to one person at a time, who will be required to wear face masks and gloves for the duration of his or her time indoors. Disinfecting wipes will be provided.

 

A thorough cleaning of the facilities will be done before and after each event, using a disinfectant on restrooms, tables, chairs, sinks and faucets, and any other high touch surface.

Temperature checks for attendees may be implemented where appropriate and as permissible by the code of Jewish Law.

 

Any students exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or suspected of having come in contact with persons believed to have contracted the virus will be required to disclose such information immediately and refrain from participating in any Chabad events until further notice.

 

Should we discover that a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19 was present at Chabad, we will inform the community immediately and advise of further measures.

 

Our plan for Shabbat Dinners and other events involving food:

 

• Shabbat dinners will take place at the open tent at Chabad.

• Students will be required to wear a mask and keep a distance when not seated to eat.

• No outside food or drink will be permitted.

• Tables and chairs will be set up with 6 ft. distance between guests.

• No communal water pitchers or food trays will be used.

• Food will be offered in either prepared portions or using a buffet system, that allows for social distancing and maintaining high hygienic standards.

• While waiting for the buffet, students will wear a mask and keep 6 ft. distance from each other.

• All persons involved in preparing and handling food will wear gloves and masks at all times.

• Additional disinfecting wipes, facemasks, and hand sanitizers will be available for students who wish to use them.

 

There will be clear signage indicating the above expectations.

 

Seeing as this is a constantly shifting reality for everyone, it is possible that our guidelines will need revising and our programming could be altered, without notice, as the situation progresses.

Whatever the scenario, we’ll do our absolute best to be there for every Jewish student in every way possible, and the safest way possible, to make sure Jewish life keeps rocking at Elon!
